Scraping Paint

Prompt #41 - Scraping Paint
This is the page I did last year and it is probably the page I least like out of all the ones I did.  I think it's the colours I chose, because scraping paint is lots of fun!

Here's a mandala I did on a watercolour background while sitting next to the river in downtown Banff. What a beautiful August day that was!

Have a wonderful day!
Create something but scraping something away!

Painted Lines

Prompt #39 - Paint lines
Now - the whole purpose of this exercise was to not get hung up on having perfectly straight lines….which is good.  I did use my watercolours for this so that's why some of the lines are thick and thin as they go across the page.  Looking back, I remember I was working on these last few pages while I was in Banff staying at the Banff Springs Hotel.  What a wonderful place to sit and create!

Earlier this year, at Emily Lagore's birthday arting evening - I created the basis of this page; painting circles and lines.  Finally in August I drew some mandala flowers within the paint.  I really like how some of these turned out!

Have a good day.

Colour Grid

Prompt #38 - Colour Grid
Just playing with water-colour paint - mixing colours and adding them to a grid I drew out to begin with.

In August I played around with water-colour and my brushes to experiment and see how they moved.  I then began working on a set of prompts from the book "Journal Fodder 365"  The first week was to focus on "I am" - so I decided to jot down different adjectives to describe who I am within the little paint markings.  This is not an easy process!  I tend to dwell more on the negative aspects of who I am - although those are the ones that are the hardest to write down!…..and I wrote them upside down!

Anyway - have an awesome day.

Block Letters

Prompt #37 - Block Letters
I've never done anything like this before - drew the lines on the page first and then wrote out my favourite scripture verse.  I had to flow from one line to the other with one word, but I had fun filling in the letters with vines.  All the little splatters of blue and neon pink come from a future page.  Yikes!

Sharing another mandala from my Fire book in Winnipeg.

Have a good day.
Block off some time to create something!

Messing with Paint

Prompt #36 - Messing with Paint
Oh there's something therapeutic about splashing paint around.  Not a lot of thought went into this, but I think because I already had the orange ink daubes at the top, I went with round splatters of paint.  Fun, fun, fun!

\
I picked up a couple books this summer on art journaling to try to get a better handle on my collages and such.  One book was "Art Journal Freedom" by Dina Wakley.  She gives little lessons on colour and composition, and then little assignments.  One of the things she includes in her collages quite a bit are silouhettes.  But it's so easy!!!!  She cuts models out of fashion magazines and then spray paints them black - easy peasy!  This woman was holding a megaphone, and I liked her stance - so she was my first try.  And along with that came the inspiration from the words to one of Stephen Curtis Chapman's songs that I love.

I had fun with a stencil technique from the book too - a process I'll share another time.

Have a wonderful day!

Documented Markers

Prompt #35 - Document Markers
This was an easy one to do (although the colours would be a bit different this year if I did it again).  I love our Stampin'Up! makers and it was fun to create a page documenting them in their colour groups.

I had a lot of fun this summer creating some found paper books.  I found some ratty old Hardy Boy books at Value Village - took their insides out and created art journals using the new binding process that Emily and Karly taught me earlier this year…which I have a brief description of in THIS POST.  I think one of the things I enjoy about making art journals is creating the covers.  I never know how they're going to turn out!

Have a fun day!

Swirly Writing

Prompt #29 - Swirly Writing
I did this one last summer - the definition and the flower were already on the page, so I used the word "Always" as the basis of my swirly writing.  I drew a swirly line first, in pencil and then erased it after the writing was dry.
I'm a bit sorry that the words from the previous page show through - but I guess it makes it interesting.

And here is a wavy zentangle I did in my little Fire book in Winnipeg.

Slow Journaling

Prompt #27 - Slow Journaling.
This is the page I did last year for the Daily Paper Prompt - I had fun with it!  To do slow journaling - you start by creating wavy irregular lines on your paper.  Then, you journal within the waves, stretching your letters to the top and bottom of the lines and the swell and shrink.  It's a slow process, but I had fun.  Once my words were in, I coloured in the waves with marker.

Have a marvellous day.
Create something wavy.

A Simple Plastic Card

Prompt #24 - Urban Layer Cake( 2013)  Simple Plastic Card(2014)
Last summer, I think the prompt was Urban Layer cake which is a technique using an old gift card or plastic card of some sort.  This is the background I created last year for this prompt.

Once the paint was dry, I added a white mandala on top.

This year, Tammy has given a different example so I'm hoping to get that done and posted along with this.  We are in the throws of some home renovations, so I'm not sure of the amount of arting I'll get done.

But, have a great day!

DDP - Mandala

Prompt #23 - Draw a Mandala
The little scribbles were already on this page - so I used greens to create the mandala.

And here's a mandala from this summer.

DPP - Mapping

Prompt #22 - Mapping.
The prompt was to create a map - I'm not sure about last year's specifics.  This year Tammy has indicated to make a map of an imaginary place.  I'm not sure if that was the case last year.  My map from last year is of a favourite place I had to escape and find peace.  It was at my Grandparents farm in Evansburg, Alberta.  Nothing is to scale here, but the little round area in the top left was a small clearing in the woods near enough to the river to be able to hear the water, but up on a cliff.   I loved hiking there and just sitting in the peacefulness.

And….here's a Winnipeg Zentangle.  Gosh I had fun trying to figure out the shadows on this.

Have a great day

DDP - Stamped Mandala

Daily Paper Prompt #21 - Stamped Mandala
This was easy for me - being a Stampin'Up! demonstrator - I have tons of stamps to choose from.  Tammy's other criteria for this though was to use alphabet or number stamps.  That made it easier for sure!

I'll also share today, a page I did while I was in Winnipeg this summer.  It's in a small 6x6 found paper book.

Have a good day.

DDP - The Blues

Prompt #20 - The Blues
I used my watercolour crayons for this one - creating designs and then adding water.  The paper in this booklet is not watercolour paper - so the effect was  completely different - but still fun.

I guess I'm sharing a bit of last year and this year.  The DPPs I did last year, and some of the stuff I've done this summer.  Here is a mandala from my Firebook that I took with me to Winnipeg.  I worked in it everyday while my husband was at meetings, or while we were sitting with friends at dinner.
