Textures, Dots and Old Paintings

Prompt #9 of Prompt 60 was all about finding texture in magazine photos.  So I pulled out some of the fashion magazines I found at our thrift store in town, but I also put some of my card stock through by Big Shot with my variety of embossing folders.  This takes up two spreads in my book, so I split them up here, so the textures could be seen easily.

Once everything was in place, I took Neocolor II water-soluble crayons; coloured and smudged around each block.

Prompt #10 was dots - big dots and little dots in watercolour.  I guess my little dots are more like dabs.  I do want to work more on my circles and the wonderful creation of colour you CAN get if you concentrate - or maybe not concentrate so much.

I misread the 10th prompt….but with Tammy's prompts, you can always interpret them in whatever way moves you.  The prompt did have to do with old painting - but we were suppose to work from a photo prompt she had given.  Instead, I took a photo of an old painting that came from a shack my Great Uncle lived in.  I don't know who painted it - either his father or one of his brothers.  Anyway - I attached the photo to a piece of watercolour paper and then extended the picture.  Obviously I am not a painter of any type - but I did have fun with this.

Here is the original painting - long and skinny and it has a mate to go with it.  Unfortunately, there isn't anyone around to ask about who did it.

Oh - and there was a second part to this prompt - to write a flash story about the painting…..and I would really like to know what the little man on the bridge is thinking.  One day I'll add that story to my book.

Ocean Creativity

The 4th prompt for Prompt60 was creativity - to either find a quote about creativity, or write about creativity.  I decided to write what creativity meant to me - dividing each with washi tape - shaped in a box because sometimes you just have to force yourself outside of your box.

Prompt #5 was a double prompt of "blur/sharp and found poetry about the ocean.  My "sharp" portion is really just a piece of some fabulous paper I found in Banff that has swirly ocean wavy lines on it.  I blurred paint on the opposite side, looked through my stash of words to see why hit me in the topic of ocean - and finally stamped some shell images.

Frames and Brainstorming

Prompt #6 had to do with keeping in mind the margins/borders around the text in a book, and creating a collage and borders with strips of left over paper

Prompt #8 …(I haven't gotten to #7 yet) was to brainstorm about something.  I knew right away I wanted to do music.  I was a bit tricky with this book that I made because the left side paper is drawing paper and the right hand side is watercolour - so the watercolour reacted differently - but I'm happy with how it turned out.

Mandala & Collage

The second prompt for Prompt60 was to create a tiny icon mandala.  Mandalas are easy - making them with little pieces was a bit more thought provoking.  I liked how this turned out though.  It's on one of the watercolour pieces of paper in my book.

Prompt #3 was"Green/Book Design" so first I had to go through my stash and pull out an assortment of green stuff.

The idea was to create a collage that had margins around the edge like the words in a book do.  Some pieces were big and others just bits of paper.  I do like this one too - and I'll be finding a way to use the other half of Wicked!

New set of prompts….

Tammy at Daisy Yellow has a new set of prompts going…..Prompt60.  So I bound a book of various plain paper pages to use.  I have a variety of papers - drawing, watercolour and brown - so I never know what I'll be working on if I go through the books using each page as it comes.

Here is my introductory page….I'm hoping this book and prompts will help me unwind:  I know I'm under the illusion of a number of different things, but can't specify what; and I look for inspiration to pull me out of the hole I sometimes spiral into.
I did this page about two weeks ago, and I have come to realize that Tammy's prompts are making me think a bit differently and reflect on things.  I think that's a good thing.

February Collage

My craft room was a disaster area so one Saturday I decided to play "Collage as We Clean".  Any little bits that were on my table had to be put into a collage.  I used my big Paper Bag book so I had a large area to fill.  The above is the left hand page.

Here is the right hand side….

And here is a view of the two of them together.  It actually took me a couple of days to get it finished.  Quite a modge podgy!
